One of the most commonly used adages says “Prevention is better than cure” - while it may be an overused term it is quite rich especially in healthcare.
Being diseased is painful, inconvenient and in some instances requires significant financial resources. So, if it's possible it is better to prevent disease. In the recent couple of years, we saw the world come together applying this adage in the fight against Covid-19. The social distancing, putting on of masks to prevent people from contracting Covid-19. While the merits of these measures are debatable against other objectives such as economic activity it was quite clear that from a health perspective, prevention was indeed better than cure.
At Kwali we strongly subscribe to prevention is better than cure being cognisant of the fact that not all diseases are preventable. We extrapolate this to mean proactively managing your health to prevent disease, screening for risk conditions to identify diseases early and instances where one is diseased manage these conditions proactively to prevent disease progression. This approach to healthcare offers the best protection to patients and is the most cost-effective way of managing conditions, the more a disease progresses the more aggressive the disease gets and the more expensive it becomes to treat the condition.
In terms of prevention of disease, we will share information and tips on how to prevent contracting infectious disease, lifestyle changes to adopt so as to prevent the onset of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension.
In the area of the screening, we share information on recommended screening to identify conditions early. There are some people with specific profiles who are more susceptible to certain conditions. An example is males older than 40 year of age are more susceptible to prostate cancer. We will share what people need to be screened for based on their risk profile - the idea being if a disease is identified early, it's easier to treat and manage and is also less costly to treat.
Finally, for those with identified conditions we will share how to manage specific conditions in ways that prevent disease progression. Indeed, there are instances where people with chronic conditions leave normal lives if they follow treatment guidelines. In most instances this is more cost effective than managing and treating diseases that have progressed significantly.
